Invoking the sensibilities of a simple surf shack, timber cladding is a telltale sign of modern coastal design. It creates a subtle impression of movement, especially when done vertically. Firm weatherboarding is not only a visual element; it is also a strong part of protecting the space from the elements. 

Softened Minimalism 

Clean lines, minimal ornamentation, and warm neutral palettes are a staple philosophy among modern coastal homes. Sometimes sharp whites will also be applied to the palette, with the understanding that natural weathering will bring it back to a more neutral look.

Tactile texturing can often be found on modern coastal facades, such as painted brickwork, weathered timber, and rough render, to create a subtle, immersive interaction with the suburb’s environment.
